What?s the difference between luxury vinyl plank and tile?
The only difference between the two is the form. Luxury vinyl flooring (LVF) can be cut in either plank (LVP) to mimic hardwood or into groutable squares for stone and tile looks, called luxury vinyl tile.
What is LVF?
This flooring, whether in plank or tile-sized pieces, provides true-to-life images inspired by nature. Wood, stone, and tile photos are taken digitally and come in various vibrant colors and patterns that follow all of the latest trends. You can get anything from gray, whitewashed, and distressed floors to marble-like surfaces of encaustic-style tile patterns.
The planks are made by cutting the vinyl into strips and then mounting them on boards. LVT (the tile-sized pieces) is made of multiple PVC layers (polyvinyl chloride) with an embossed top layer that mimics grooves found in natural products, such as stone; it's then dried with both heat and air to result in a robust product. Many feel the extra seams add even more to the realism.
Other benefits:
1. Durability. This is a layered product that is five times thicker than a standard sheet. The top layer is a robust and clear melamine coating that protects the floor from scratches and scuffs.
2. Affordability. Even though luxury vinyl is considered a premium product, it is very affordable. Many flooring experts have difficulty telling the difference between this and genuine wood. You'll know, though, because you won't pay nearly the same price.
3. Easy maintenance. All this takes is a daily sweeping and periodic mopping with a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Avoid wax, shine promoting products as they can damage the finish and dull the floor.
4. Uncomplicated installation. When installed as a floating floor, the pieces click together, mat, and then hover over the subfloor without nails or glue.
